Dear ILCA Families and Staff,
I want to take an opportunity to introduce myself as the new second grade teacher for Immanuel. I was born and raised in Tulsa and I met my husband Mike at OSU.
While rearing our children, I embraced opportunities to serve in various volunteer roles influencing and advocating for children by teaching Sunday School, leading Girl Scout troops, planning and running weekend camp-outs for over 50 girls, serving on PTA boards, etc.
As the youngest of our three daughters went to middle school, I went back to school and received my Masters degree in Teaching at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. My family was able to relocate back home to Tulsa, where I have worked for the last nineteen years as a classroom teacher, a reading specialist and, most recently as a part-time school media specialist/ librarian.
Currently, my husband and I live with four dogs. Two of them are therapy dogs that volunteer in the Tulsa City-County Library System reading with children, visiting patients in the Children’s Hospital, visiting various schools, and playing with kids at the Laura Dester Children’s Home.
It is a fun way to volunteer in the community!
I feel so grateful to have found such a wonderful and welcoming school home as Immanuel. The new school year awaits- full of hope, curiosity, and adventure. I’m excited to meet everyone!
Feeling Blessed,
Alicia Detter
