Summer Reading: 6 – 12th grades

Parents,
-Beginning this summer, students will have required reading to help them prepare for the upcoming school year. Each piece of literature was chosen with careful consideration and aligns with grade-level Social Students and English Language Arts standards. Additionally, students will read a specific part of the Bible which corresponds thematically and will culminate to them reading the Bible in its entirety their senior year.
-I will discuss the reading assignments with the students before the end of the school year, and I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. Please note that the works, other than the Bible, are not Christian literature; they are, rather, classics and/or contain important themes. I always recommend you read the books with your students to propel healthy conversations about where we can see God in a secular world. In fact, in high school, I always ask students what connections they can make with the story and where they can find God at work. Oftentimes, they see that while the literature is not written by a Christian author, a character recognizes God or, by rejecting God, experiences a life unfulfilled.
-Click on the link and find the tab that relates to your student- the assignments are based on the grades students will be in starting in the fall. Students will also receive a hard copy in class. Books can be found in eBook format and at the library. Many of these books also have free audio through YouTube, Librivox, or other literature websites.
