Middle School Science

6th Grade Life Science:

Life science encompasses a wide range of disciplines. We will focus on the following topics in this course -Student will analyze matter and its interactions (particle motion, temperature, and states), along with forces (electric and magnetic) and energy.  Students will model cells -> organisms, including parts and functions. Students will compare and contrast photosynthesis and cellular respiration.  Students will examine ecosystems (interactions, energy, dynamics), the water cycle, and the effects of human impact on the environment. Conceptual and mathematical understanding of life science will be stressed. Problem-solving skills, critical thinking situations, and activity/lab based learning will be incorporated throughout the course.

7th Grade Earth Science:

Earth science encompasses a wide range of disciplines. We will focus on the following topics in this course.  Students will model atomic structure and chemical reactions; analyze forces and interactions; and study various forces of energy.  Students will investigate animal behavior and plant growth with emphasis in heredity and diversity from a Christian perspective.  Students will model the earth, solar system , and universe – spin, seasons, formation as well discuss the latest in technological advances.  Students will compare weather and climate examining the effects of air masses while taking into consideration atmospheric and oceanic conditions.  Conceptual and mathematical understanding of earth science will be stressed. Problem-solving skills, critical thinking situations, and activity/lab based learning will be incorporated throughout the course.

8th Grade Physical Science:

Physical Science encompasses two broad areas in science – chemistry and physics. The course will include a review of measurement and the metric system, modeling  atomic structure within the context of the periodic table and its meaning, examining chemical bonding/compounds and why they behave as they do.  Students will analyze forces and interactions, energy, and waves including their applications in technologies for information transfer. Conceptual and mathematical understanding of physical science will be stressed. Problem-solving skills, critical thinking situations, and activity/lab-based learning will be incorporated throughout the course.
